Dress Project
I created this dress when I was strongly influenced by Hawaiian culture. I conducted research which included; initial designs,
fabric testing, theme research and so on. The dress is primarily made from two
fabrics which contrast but complement each other in colour, boning in the
bodice, one red concealed zip and has been styled in a summer dress fashion.
Art Painting
This is an acrylic painting I produced using primary source Photos. I have included this in my digital portfolio to show how able I am to make work creative. I have used many different textures in this piece and worker with the paints to create a soft blend.
Shop Report - Personnel Project
To help me gain more knowledge and expand my area of interest, I took a trip to Selfridges in London. There I was able to gain knowledge of what other products were being offered at the same market level I was hoping to look in to. I then based a shop report on this visit whilst it was still fresh in my mind. I believe work like this shows how well I can conduct market research.
Conceptual Ideas - Personnel Project
As part of this project I had to create a set of conceptual Ideas which related to my theme and my own design brief. I really enjoy conducting work like this as it really helps me to express myself.
1/5 Scale - Personnel Project
I created this 1/5 scale piece of work so that I was able to see and estimate what shapes and sizes I would need to make my pattern pieces when producing the final outcomes. I had to customize the pattern pieces specifically to my taste in order to achieve the best outcome. To do this I had to separate my pattern pieces in to a handful of panels.
Developed initial design ideas - Personnel Project
This post shows a handful of the developed initial design ideas I created to help me decide which design I was going to carry out further into the project. I clearly annotated and l;labelled all the key features of the dresses and I also went on to say what type of fabrics and colours I would use if I took them further in the process.
Toile - Personnel project
I produced this picture to show the stage I am currently at in my new project. As evident, I am making a dress that has a feminine fit, a long floaty drape and style with a defining bodice area. I plan to adapt this further by adding free-hand machine embroidery as a decorative technique and a concealed zip which will be placed down the side of the garment.
Written evaluation - Skirt Project
This is a written piece of work I wrote to evaluate how I worked throughout working on the skirt project. I included what I thought my main weaknesses and strengths were, and I also wrote about what areas I thought I could improve on and what techniques I would use in future work.
Fabrics page - Mini project
I conducted this page
to show how I developed my mini project by transferring my final pattern onto different
types of fabrics to see which would be most suitable for purpose. I was able to
establish which fabrics worked well and which was not suitable for my design.
Ipad case development - Illustrator - Mini project
This post shows a
part of a mini-project that I conducted. It shows how I worked on a programme
called ‘illustrator’ to create a pattern suitable to be worn on an iPad case.
This is only one of two sheets I produced for this purpose. It shows gradual steps which lead up to my final design. I ended up with a
repeated pattern which I was able to transfer onto fabric.
Designer research - Skirt project
This shot shows a
task I carried out, researching specific designers who were highly influential.
I based this task around three designers, two of which are shown on this page.
I carried out this designer research as they had huge influences on skirts. I
targeted information based on their most famous skirt styles and why they were
so popular.
Fabric testing - Skirt project
This is an image of
fabric research I conducted to see how suitable for purpose my chosen fabrics
were. This is only one of the three sheets I created for this purpose. On this
page specifically, I tester for ability to fray, tear and how resistant the
fabrics were to temperatures on an iron. I carried out more fabric testing and
made sure I carried out tests on all four of my chosen fabrics.
Shop report - River Island
This is a shop report
I conducted after taking a trip with college to Meadowhall in Sheffield. This
is only one half of this task. This page in particular shows me describing what
type of promotion River Island uses to advertise their store and the products within
their store. It also describes where River Island stores can be found, other
links and information about the layout of the Meadowhall store in particular.
Moodboard - theme 'Chic'
I created this expressive mood board to show what I wanted
to resemble my chosen theme. I gathered the images from a range of different
media sources which included numerous types of magazines and the internet. Too
chose the right sources for this piece of work I focussed on colour, style and
decoration techniques. By gathering together images like these I was able to
work from them to keep relating back to my theme and my prime objectives.
Design Specification
This image represents a more academic area of my textiles
coursework which I put together last year. It is a design specification which
sums up what is required of my in specific sectors. I catered this piece of
work so it was suitable for the given design brief, which requested some
mandatory elements and for my own personal wants out of the project. For
example; I declared that I would conduct this project basing my final design in
a high end market.
Garment making - Skirt
The skirt shown in this photo was made by me last year. I
was happy with the outcome as it was relevant to my chosen theme, ’chic’, and
it was successfully put together. I specifically took pictures of the skirt in
this setting as I thought it related well to my design brief. Specifically
because of my theme and the high end market I expected it to reach.
Mood board
I created this mood board as part of a mini self-project. My
aim was to make an accessory that had a classic, repetitive pattern. I
collected a range of pictures that stood out to me and related to what I
wanted. Whilst working on this product I kept referring back to this page as it
reminded me what colours I was looking at, what style, the type of pattern and
so on.
